“Sticks and stones may break my bones but names (words) can never hurt me.”
On many occasions over the years I have come across stories where spoken words created all kinds of trouble for the person on the receiving end. Stories of adults speaking unkind words over children, children over friends, and well meaning doctors over patients.
I’ve also seen how very positive uplifting words have shaped champions and lead to salvation!
Romans 10:9 states; If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Think about how extremely powerful that scripture is. Our eternity depends on this!
Also powerful is the prognosis from someone saying that a person has XYZ disease and X months to live. What happens next is crucial. That person is now presented with an opportunity to believe in their heart that they have XYZ disease and confess with their mouth to family and friends.
Is it possible that the same power of belief and the tongue for salvation can also accomplish the opposite results? After all, Proverbs 18:21 says; “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…”
I’ve read many stories of seemingly healthy people going in for a physical checkup and hear the words you have _____ disease and 6 months to live. Within a few months the person passes.
I have also witnessed an adult using words of love, respect and kindness to transform a child into a caring and powerful woman of God. I’ve seen the sicked healed by words of life spoken over them.
I am by no means saying that anyone with a disease has cursed themselves or been cursed. What I am saying, however, is that WE DO HAVE POWER IN OUR TONGUES TO CREATE! It’s never too late to reverse course.
God spoke and the worlds were framed and made. He then said “let us make man in our image.” That’s a big deal! Jesus spoke to Lazarus; “Come forth!” And said, “Little girl arise!” “Let their be light.” Words are very important. Your words are very important. Choose them wisely and with great care.
Let’s believe God, speak life over ourselves and others, and walk in and enjoy the awesome life God has given us to live!
