That which gets your attention—GETS YOU!
Do you remember in the Pixar movie “A Bugs Life” when two mosquitoes fly near a bug zapper; one flies towards it, as if in a trance—one mosquito says to the other, Harry, no! Don’t look at the light! The other mosquito says in reply [entranced] I-can’t-help-it. It’s-so-beautiful. Harry [...]

Harry of course gets zapped and falls…

According to many Christian groups, pornography is a disturbing and increasing problem. A Promise Keepers survey found that 53 percent of its members consume pornography. A 2000 Christianity Today survey found that 37 percent of pastors said pornography is a “current struggle” of theirs. A Barna Research Group study released in February 2007 said that 35 percent of men and 17 percent of women reported having used pornography in the past month.

In Matthew 6:22-23 Jesus says: The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is sound, your entire body will be full of light. 23But if your eye is unsound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the very light in you [your conscience] is darkened, how dense is that darkness!

Good News! God’s word is the answer. Proverbs 4:23,25 – Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life. 25Let your eyes look right on [with fixed purpose], and let your gaze be straight before you.

And Psalm 27:4-5 says: One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. 5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. It is ultimately our choice. Our health, healing, and wholeness comes from Him alone.

Is it possible that all we need is a fresh revelation of who this glorious man Christ Jesus really is? Remember in Luke 5 when the disciples were on the boat and Jesus was with them? Peter, a PROFESSIONAL fisherman was having a rough day. No fish! After a while Jesus (the preacher) suggested to Peter (the professional fisherman) that he should throw the nets into the deep water. Peter already exasperated, agreed just to appease the Lord. When they hauled in the catch it was so large that they had to call in the other boats to help. Peter, overwhelmed with a fresh revelation of Jesus, fell to his knees and said “depart from me for I am a sinful man O Lord.” Suddenly he knew this was no ordinary man.

Picture the upper room as Thomas upon his arrival was greeted by several enthusiastic believers. Thomas, they shouted, He was here. He’s alive! Thomas said he would only believe it if he could touch the wounds in Jesus’ hands and side. A week goes by and Jesus walks in, even though the door was locked. Thomas, put your hands here in My side and My hands. Instead Thomas, armed with a fresh revelation of this awesome savior, says “my Lord and my God.”

So, follow the instruction in the book of Hebrews and Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God…

Finish Well,

I had a dream recently of a grand scale invasion of an enemy army. At the time everyone was feeling pretty good and secure about life when the invasion hit. Most were not prepared and the enemy suddenly occupied OUR territory. It was mostly fear that crippled our men and women. In the dream, as long as a person obeyed (submitted to the invader’s whims and orders) they were allowed to go about their business. At any time, however, the enemy could ravage, destroy or do whatever to us because of the complacency of the invaded.

The battlefield was the USA. Our citizens were frightened and seemingly helpless. As I realized that fear was the enemy’s main strength, I decided to stand and take them on (what did I have to lose?) Finally, at one point as I was being harassed and tormented by one of their officers I had had enough. I clenched my right fist, turned and knocked him across the face with full force and he hit the ground hard. When he finally got up he ran quickly away never to return.

From that point on I was watched carefully by the enemy officers…and even befriended by them to the point that they actually trusted me. I suddenly had the respect of my enemy. I was able to do as I pleased. I continued to try to help as many of our people as I could but to no avail as they had no fight left in them. They felt that as long as they stayed submitted to the invading forces that they could at least live an ok yet captive life and not be too bothered. This infuriated me. So I located and commandeered a large “Indiana Jones” type truck to take things to the next level and rally and save the troops.

Then the real chase began….dream over. As long as I was faithful to run to the fight, fear came on the enemy and I prevailed.

OUR TROOPS MUST BE RALLIED! I believe this dream is from God. I am concerned that the cares of this world… budgets, complaints, gossip, color of the foyer, bills, gas prices, are consuming many and taking us off task…which is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry and KICK THE ENEMY’S TAIL!!!

We are currently in a season like no other that I personally have ever seen. Fear is overtaking many. Darkness appears to be on the horizon. BUT OUR GOD IS NOT AFRAID NOR HAS HE FORGOTTEN HIS PEOPLE. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says that the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ! We must press in and FIGHT if we expect to see God’s glory. Jeremiah 29:13

In closing; during a recent hospital visit, I had prayed to see healing and the dead raised but found that I was not really prepared for that battle. I was wearing jeans, boots, and a nice shirt instead of my full armor. We have heard a lot about change recently. Do you want to see real change??? Sound the battle cry. Get on your knees and fight. Stir up the gift within you. Fast, pray, and believe God. 1 Thessalonians 5:6, 21 So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. …But test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.

I encourage you all to prepare for battle; for that is where we find ourselves like it or not. To win, and we must win, we have to run TO the fight fully prepared, fearless, faithful, with weapons drawn and the roar of victory coming from the depths of our being!

Ephesians 6:10-18 10In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides]. 11 Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil. 12 For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

13 Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place]. 14 Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,15 And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace. 16 Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one]. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God. 18 Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit…

Finish well,

Tom Davis

There is a true story of a little boy whose sister needed a blood transfusion. The doctor explained that she had the same disease the boy had recovered from two years earlier. Her only chance of recovery was a transfusion from someone who had previously conquered the disease. Since the two children had the same rare blood type, the boy was an ideal donor.

“Would you give your blood to Mary?” the doctor asked.
Johnny hesitated. His lower lip started to tremble. Then he smiled and said, “sure, for my sister.”

Soon the two children were wheeled into the hospital room. Mary, pale and thin. Johnny, robust and healthy. Neither spoke, but when their eyes met, Johnny grinned. As the nurse inserted the needle into his arm, Johnny’s smile faded. He watched the blood flow through the tube.

With the ordeal almost over, Johnny’s voice, slightly shaky, broke the silence.
“Doctor, when do I die?”

Only then did the doctor realize why Johnny hesitated, why his lip had trembled when he agreed to donate his blood. He thought giving blood to his sister would mean giving up his life. In that brief moment, he had made a great decision.

In John 15:12-14 Jesus says, “This is my command: Love each other as I have loved you. The greatest love a person can show is to die for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.”

Would you like to be Jesus’ friend? I know it’s my greatest desire…

Finish Well,

Tom Davis

John 17:20 Neither for these alone do I pray [it is not for their sake only that I make this request], but also for all those who will ever come to believe in (trust in, cling to, rely on) Me through their word and teaching… Jesus prayed for you and for me!

John 15:15 I do not call you servants (slaves) any longer, for the servant does not know what his master is doing (working out). But I have called you My friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father. [I have revealed to you everything that I have learned from Him.] HE TELLS HIS SECRETS TO HIS FRIENDS!

Friendship is developed through rightly relating to someone, (walking in truth and love), while spending time with them. One tends to become like those they spend time with.

Have you ever noticed how people that have been married to the same person most of their lives start to look like each other? They can actually at times finish each other’s sentences and know what their spouse is thinking and doing. So, by rightly relating to Jesus and spending as much time with Him as possible…we just may start to look like Him, know what He’s thinking and doing!

Mary Magdalene was a friend of Jesus. At His empty tomb she waited for any kind of sign as to where He might be. In John 20:15-17 Jesus said to her, Woman, why are you crying [so]? For Whom are you looking? Supposing that it was the gardener, she replied, Sir, if you carried Him away from here, tell me where you have put Him and I will take Him away. 16. Jesus said to her, Mary! Turning around she said to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni!–which means Teacher or Master. 17. Jesus said to her, Do not cling to Me [do not hold Me], for I have not yet ascended to the Father.

In this amazing encounter Mary, out of whom Jesus had cast 7 demons, when she realized it was Him, dove for Him with no intention of ever letting go again. Notice that Jesus said don’t cling… HE INTERUPTED THE EARTH SHATTERING RESURRECTION TO GREET HIS FRIEND MARY!

You remember Stephen. A God fearing man full of faith and power, and one who believed Jesus to be the Messiah. Well he made the religious men mad! Acts 7:55-56 says; But he, full of the Holy Spirit and controlled by Him, gazed into heaven and saw the glory (the splendor and majesty) of God, and Jesus standing at God’s right hand; 56. And he said, Look! I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at God’s right hand!

Now we know that Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father. When it was time to greet His friend Stephen He was STANDING!

I don’t know about you, but I want to be a friend of Jesus!

Finish Well,

Date: 06-29-09

The same voice that “spoke” and the worlds were framed and made, said “let there be light,” and also said in Matt 26:11 “The poor you will always have with you…” and in Mark 11:23 “Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, be lifted up and thrown into the sea, and does not doubt at all in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him.” California’s not going to sink into the ocean. I believe there will rise up a group of believers that will get some big faith, enough to throw mountains into the ocean and watch it rise!

Proverbs 18:21 says, death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]. Our voices are extremely powerful.

Have you ever had someone raise their voice in anger at you? Especially someone you care for. Or have you seen kids on the playground mercilessly taunt and tease another child. What is the typical result?

Have you ever had someone unexpectedly tell you “great job” or “I love you?” Or had someone you care for tell you “I believe in you! I know that you can accomplish anything you put your hand to!” How does that feel in your spirit and what does it do for your soul?

My mom used to always tell us kids, if you don’t have anything nice to say to someone, don’t say anything at all. My 7th grade Catholic nun would say, think before you ink! In other words, your words are powerful and can bring blessings or curses.

At one point in my life my dad told my mom concerning me, Tom can accomplish anything he will put his heart in. That statement launched me into my destiny…full of faith. My pastor, boss and father in the faith, John Wimber, once told me that as far as he and his wife were concerned I could be mayor of our town. That everything I did brought blessing.

WOW! Talk about speaking life in to someone. I was ready to take on the gates of hell with a water pistol! He also allowed me many opportunities to exercise the gifts and callings God had placed in me. I went on to travel the world with him, produce 30 plus worship recordings, and produce some live productions through which many came to the saving knowledge of Christ.

I would encourage anyone reading this to carefully think about the words you will say today. Your words carry tremendous weight and can impact a person’s life for years to come. Get around people who love life, laugh and speak life. We do become like those we spend time with…

Finish Well,

A friend of mine once told me, “no matter how thin you slice the bologna, there will always be two sides.” Tales of how we’ve been done wrong, he said, she said…so many stories and so precious little time!

What if…all that anyone could demonstrate towards another person was humility, deference or preference? Would there be less concern about who’s right and who’s wrong? After all, Romans 12:10 states; be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor. And in John 15:13 it says; No one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection] than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends.

We are loved by our God more than we can fathom. He has called us to rule and reign with Him in eternity. God’s plan for His body, according to John 17:21-23 is that they all may be one, [just] as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe and be convinced that You have sent Me. 22. I have given to them the glory and honor which You have given Me, that they may be one [even] as We are one: 23. I in them and You in Me, in order that they may become one and perfectly united, that the world may know and [definitely] recognize that You sent Me and that You have loved them [even] as You have loved Me.

What do you suppose is the enemy’s plan?

Wikipedia defines it this way—In politics and sociology, divide and rule (derived from Latin divide et impera) (also known as divide and conquer) is a combination of political, military and economic strategy of gaining and maintaining power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into chunks that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy. In reality, it often refers to a strategy where small power groups are prevented from linking up and becoming more powerful, since it is difficult to break up existing power structures.

What if we spent less time being offended and more time loving the unlovely? If we really do believe in God and His kingdom rule, we should start acting it now. After all Jesus said in Mark 9:35 “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of whom?” ALL.

Pick someone today for whom you can perform a random act of kindness. Pray for a sick person. Speak healing into a marriage. Believe for a miracle! And no matter what anyone says to or about you…do love.

Finish Well,
MARK 35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” NIV We know the rest of the story.

First of all Jesus says, “Let us go over to the other side.” This is the same God who said ” Let there be light” and there was. They were going to the other side…it may have been under the water, over the water, or on top of the water…but they were going!

Secondly, Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. Now in the natural the stern, which is the rear of the boat, tends to be less bouncy than the bow of a boat. But even so, Jesus was sound asleep, in the midst of a raging storm, out in the middle of the sea…with grown men screaming for their lives! They were scared to death. The difference, Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world…there are no storms in His kingdom. (The place He has taught us to pray for) Therefore His peace remains. Faith in the Lord and believing for His kingdom to come and His will to be done brings peace which surpasses our natural understanding.

Third, the disciples cried out to Him saying, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” What a question to ask the Savior of the universe! It is for us that He came! When we find ourselves in seemingly desperate circumstances we can sometimes be led into a place of fear and unbelief, then becoming increasingly reliant on natural abilities and knowledge. What if God in His great mercy and seeing our dilemma chooses to allow it for a time? 1 Peter 1:7 says: Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it’s your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory.

In Psalm 139 David says, Where can I go to flee from Your Spirit? You are always there! There is nowhere we can go to escape His Spirit. As it has been said, if you cannot imagine yourself without Him, you might as well imagine yourself with Him where He is! IN HIS KINGDOM… Ephesians 2:6 says we have been raised up and seated in heavenly places with Christ! Pretty good place to be. Let’s live there. Let’s take a lost and dying world there with us. Let us go to the other side!

Finish well,
I had a friend ask me one day, “why are you charismatics are so emotional. You are always looking for the next great experience.” Why can’t you just be content reading the Word and forget about all of this whoopla? Now while some, who find themselves lumped into the “charismatic” camp, actually find this aspersion quite offensive and vigorously defend their position in the body of Christ, I just tend to agree with my friend.

Now before you get all huffy, read on. First of all, I am a follower of Jesus Christ, not a charismatic, bapticostal, or any other “ic”,”ite,”or “stal.” Secondly, His Kingdom is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost! Two thirds of His kingdom is EMOTION, and I choose to pursue it…emotionally!

I saw this great saying in a store the other day that said: “Life’s journey is not meant to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting holy cow, what a ride!” If we’re going to live life on this earth, then let’s LIVE LIFE, and live it out loud. Find your passion and do it, all the while doing as unto the Lord. Yes, by all means read and study God’s word to show yourself approved. But faith without works is dead. Do the stuff. If you can express your emotions at your favorite sporting event, how much more so should you do it for your Creator and God?

Recently I met with a couple of gentlemen who had a deep desire to more passionately express themselves in their relationship with God but they were found wanting. They love the Lord but their personality types were such that while brilliant when it comes to analyzing, it was frustrating for them as they discovered that they were unable express their emotions in a more demonstrative way.

Maybe we can all learn from each other. Maybe we are all different parts of the same body working together for one purpose. Imagine yourself standing next to Jesus as you look at that other Christian that doesn’t believe the way you do. How would you speak about them to Jesus? We are on the same team. WE WIN! Let’s live like it now and see what God might do for us later.

Finish Well,
